I worked as a Consultant in Deloitte Advisory, though in an analytics role. Now at JP.
I would avoid tech risk like the plague. It is the lowest paid role at Deloitte outside accounting audit, and they do not do cost of living adjustments. Not to mention VP is a higher level position than SC. VP at Deloitte Advisory is Manager. Unless you’re really low paid I would avoid it. If you are dying to do audit consulting, join a smaller form. They pay better
Not a fan of tech risk to begin with , regardless of firm , front office related roles are much better , risk is back office but non discretionary
Innovation , machine learning , nlp applications in back office is all discretionary
I would just think of this as a long term approach , industry vs consulting to be honest. Cyber risk is not same as risk tech but point well noted. Have you done consulting before ? Do you want to make a career in risk ? I personally have done small boutique consulting previously and it helps getting into industry later . Consulting folks will always downgrade you when u come from industry eg an ed will be manager in consulting . The upside here being , if you want to move practices , consulting folks are pretty open minded that way .
Im in FO coverage role at Citi CB. Personally IT is not for me but I think Citi would be an interesting place for cyber security. I’ve had folks from cyber security team join and present at meetings w Corp treasurers and other treasury staff and had really good feedback. I am touring the jersey cyber center next month with a client and looking forward to it. Again, not really my thing, but the ppl I’ve meet are bright (some frm CIA/NSA) and the job seems like it could berelatively interesting. No idea on comp...
I just second what RA1 mentioned , no tech risk roles ... if you are getting into consulting do Analytics or mc
What group within Deloitte?
What’s discretionary back office?
It’s back office until 50% of front office gets replaced by descriptive tech... if we set aside this back office role thing not being too sexy, which is a better choice?
If you can move practices later I would go with Deloitte, citi’s risk tech is based in warren , Nj and then you are stuck . Atleast with Deloitte you are a “consulting person” if you have never done consulting that is
jpmc1 - all risk related are in D advisory
jpmc2 - cyber risk is with in the risk org at Citi, so it’s based out of their headquarter in Tribeca... any other thoughts?
Sorry, cyber risk, even at D is cyber risk, I didn’t want to confuse people if no one understood the difference, but it sounds like Citi is the right place to go
