Curious. With the new class of first year associates starting, do you have any interesting thoughts/observations/perspectives on “Gen Z” lawyers?

they will help us lead the revolution to turn this archaic industry around. Support them!

Gen Z’s organized March For Our Lives all over the country, and they truly inspire me. be supportive.

we all hate how the boomers labelled us as “lazy, entitled millenials with avo toast”. let’s not turn into boomers and do the same to Gen Z.

Absolutely!! Cannot wait to start making changes with Gen Z!! 🔥

I love how they have boundaries! I’m an elder millennial and listen to my Gen X bosses complain about Gen Z boundaries but I love it ❤️

Honestly, more power to a group that’s figured out how to unionize without ever actually unionizing through the power of tiktok and setting (IMO) pretty reasonable boundaries.

Millennials like me internalized that we were never good enough for the job so are always looking to please the powers that be. Gen Z decided that they’re not only good enough for the job, they’re better than the job.

Anyone have tips for asking for more than you think you're worth? Because of the employment market there's a job which is about a 20K jump for me but it's been open for a year so I'm pretty sure I can get something additional out of them. Would it be appropriate to ask for 10K above the jump? Or should I just count my blessings and leverage my ability to underprice other applicants

Thinking of alternate second incomes to manage. I was recently let go. I have a couple of offers, but, all them start in January. I am receiving unemployment for the time being. It’s scary to see savings diminish by the 1000s every month. Any ideas on part-time, seasonal gigs that will allow me the time to work on my resume, submit applications, prepare for certifications and take interviews? Anything that will add value to my experience ,Tech strategy and Product Management, is a plus.

If I make eye contact with a girl multiple times at a bar, is that some sort of a sign for me to go up to her and talk to her? I suck at picking up on signals in general so I usually chose to do nothing about it. If it happens again, I want to be aware and not just do nothing about it.😅

Any attorneys here with ADHD/ADD? I was recently diagnosed ADHD, but it was clear I had it my whole life. It did not materially hinder me until law school, and now it’s pretty debilitating as an associate. Since I have been medicated, some executive functioning has been better but it’s really hit or miss. Anyone have any success stories? Would in-house be easier to manage as there is less executive functioning (ie no timekeeping and billing)? I appreciate any response in advance. Thanks!

I am a 25-year-old first year associate fresh out of law school at a small civil litigation firm. I went to a good law school and work hard. Friend and I who went to law school together want to go into practice together (specifically, COA/HOA collections); however, she is not licensed, yet. I am. She would be working the same as I, just unable to give advice, file, etc. (all the things that require a license). Our deal would be that upon her licensure, she would get a percentage ownership of the firm (probably 49-50%). However, I litigate, and would anticipate bringing on cases to the firm outside of just HOA/COA stuff. (Cont’d)…

I am an incoming associate (awaiting bar results). I have already begun working as a law clerk and am already being given plenty of tasks to fill my time, which I’m grateful for. I am also fortunate to be in working in an area of the law that is personally fulfilling to me, so a lot of the work I do doesn’t feel like work. Here’s the thing: I do my absolute best. I give polished, clean work, and I always give my personal best. However, it seems like a lot of the tasks I do always get sent back..

A lot of people complain about millennials but a Gen Z clerk just told me that she wasn’t going to download some documents from a deal site because they were so many (and she had to download one document at a time) and I should review them directly on the site.

Just graduated law school with honors but don’t have a job lined up. I’m thinking about just going solo and starting my own firm after taking the bar in Sept. Finances are not a problem. Planning to practice IP transactions/prosecution/litigation. I have work exp/clerk/extern but no associate exp. This climate is crazy and I think I can grab a lot of smaller work myself through my own networks and be my own boss. Also currently grabbing an mba part time. Thoughts? Advice?

Okay. Possibly a stupid question BUT Imma ask anyway.

Can someone just explain how you plan out how much to bill so you can make sure it’s not a mad scramble at the end of year? I’m moving from a firm where I was lacking in any kind of mentorship. No one ever just sat down and explained the most efficient way to track/measure your hours to confirm that you are on track.

Is there just a secret excel spreadsheet that all lawyers have and I just missed the memo???

HELP.
