Current internship gave me an offer that I have to accept by the end of August, but other firms don’t even start interviewing until at least September. Is it a bad idea to accept the offer here and then reneg later if a better offer comes along in October? I don’t want to be left in the deep end if nothing else works out.

I did something similar and worked out well for me.

Put yourself first and try not to burn bridges as much as you can.

Same. Got offer for small no name firm and signed with it before pwc offer came. No regrets

Accept it and reneg if needed, put yourself first

I was in the same situation last year and accepted the offer. Then I interviewed with the firms I was interested in and landed a job at a MBB. I just called the HR and told her I found something that was better aligned with my career goals. It is pretty common so she was understanding and I wasn’t «blacklisted» of that company.

So, my advice is: choose the safest option. Secure that job first because getting a job at a Big4/T2/MBB is definitely not guaranteed. If you manage to get a better offer, just rescind the one you accepted/ or renegotiate (Make sure not use the signing bonus in the meantime if there is any). Also, try to give them enough notice and not to burn bridges.

Companies won’t put their insterests above yours, so always put yours above theirs.

Could you elaborate on the “try to not burn as many bridges” how do we do that

I reneged on McKinsey. Never affected me 🤷‍♂️

like

Nice. Wishing you the best!

for reference current firm is not a big 4/T2/MBB

I was in a similar boat once and just asked them to push back the deadline. It worked out fine for me but will of course be firm dependent. They’ve already sunk resources into you and know you’d be a good fit, so they’re likely more flexible than they’ll let on. Of course if they push back you can always accept and renege later like others have suggested.

like

Definitely better off pushing back the offer timeline than reneg. People talk and the industry is smaller than you think. It makes your reputation look non trustworthy.

like

Agree with everyone here: put yourself first and accept the for sure thing. If necessary reneg later if a better opportunity comes around. Try to be civil and give as much notice as possible if needed so they could find someone else. The business world is small, so def recommend not burning bridges but thinking about your needs/career first.

Depending on your school, there may be consequences. My school will fine you $5K if you reneg a full time offer and will bar you for using career resources

like

What school you went to?

like

Don’t worry about that. Happens all the time, so basically all firms have to expect a certain share of accepted offers could go somewhere else in the end anyways.

Put yourself first, especially if it’s your first real job. Be polite when you reneg and you could still come back later

You can always accept then turn it down

Congrats! What does the offer look like like for the interns? How much % increase over your internship pay?

That's fine and a consequence of the firms own aggressive offer policy

I accepted a full-time offer 1 year in advance from date start and received 2 other full-time offers within a year of starting work for the 1st offer.

Put yourself first.

Put yourself first. They will not care at all and fire you if they felt the need to at some point.

I’m not sure if I can let the interviewer know I’m not too strong with coding. I do want to take up the challenge, and also find out if the role would require extensive coding though. Any tips?

Hi all,
Need some advice.
I got the highest offer from LnT worth 17, but I can try for some more comapnies and get higher offers.
But ,I also want to retain in capgemini if they match the package.
Should I stop interviews & approach my manager or should I wait for him to call me again ? He had already called once saying he would match the package.
Am I being too greedy if I ask for 18/19 to retain?Or should I just ask for 17 so that repport between me and my manager remains intact?

My company covers in depth results each week, including meetings set/attended, wins, revenue, retention etc. I feel as if evaluating in such depth is detrimental to the psyche, as you never get to “ride the high.” In addition, some weeks are simply slower than others, and it’s not always representative of what the results at the end of the period or quarter will be. Is this not a big deal, and I’m I placing too much importance on it? Or is it beneficial to review results less frequently?
