Remember that babies react to your stress. Maybe save a shot of bourbon for yourselves.
Felt the same way before a flight from EWR>SAN, turned out just fine. Been on plenty of flights where there’s been a crying baby, it never bothers me and I think a lot of people are sympathetic to it. Don’t stress too much and use the friendly advice above.

Think outside-in. You and wife will do great with your own kid. The best advice given to me was to treat those seated around you. Drinks, movies and earplugs.
Just take a deep breath and roll with it. It's usually fine.
If the little one is getting fussy, just make sure you’re both putting forth the necessary effort. People will generally look past the crying or anything else if they see that you’re trying
Drink and snacks for ascent and descent. Little ears don’t deal well with the pressure changes. Get up and walk from time to time - it’s a mini adventure.
Can you get the bulkhead? Extra space helps
Test Benadryl on kid before flight. 5-10% of kids will become excited instead of sleepy with benadryl.
Keep the bink in... it helps with the ear pressure!
We took our 12mo to Australia. He crawled around, interacted with people, slept, watched videos. Let them play and try to enjoy the flight so it's just another day for them
My wife is a pharmacist. She said Benadryl typically makes children under the age of 5 hyper. Consider yourself warned.
Read books about being on an airplane. “Practice” at home to get them somewhat used to it. Get to airport early so you aren’t stressed before getting on plane
