Currently in a MCOL city, 4 YOE in-house, 200k base / 20% bonus / 25k equity. Have an opportunity to move back to my competitive HCOL hometown for an expanded role — lateral at 170k / 15% bonus / no equity.

The only reason I'm considering it is family. I have two small kids and eventually want to be close to home, but in-house opportunities there are rare so it feels like a now-or-never situation. My hesitation is that I'm not ready to leave my current role. Am I crazy for considering this?

If you dont need the extra money do what makes you happy. Work to live dont live to work.

I think you’re crazy to consider it.

Also have two kids and we’re moving later this year from MCOL to VHCOL to be near family/live where we want to be forever. I’m probably going to take a pay cut initially and I really don’t want to leave my role, it’s an incredible job, great bosses/coworkers, but we decided that moving is what’s best for our family so we have to make sacrifices.

If you can afford it, your family is set on moving back, and the extra family help will make a difference, I say go for it. Maybe even ask for some relocation as an extra boost?

This might not be a long term position but at least can bridge the gap for the move!

I moved from MCOL to HCOL and company let me keep my job without increase for cost of living. Could you ask your current employer if you could work remotely and come in to work on an annual or biannual basis? Hard to think the higher cost of living city has less opportunities, I’d expect more. In any event, totally understand your move from a family perspective (same reason we moved). Don’t think it’s crazy, and it saves a ton of time/money to be close imo

Started talking to this guy through group a group telegram and one day he offered to pay for my lunch as I had helped him out with something. Since then he has been offering to pay for my dinners, salon visits, shopping etc and I have accepted 3-4 times. I am in a steady relationship and my boyfriend doesn’t know about this. The other guy just says he likes paying for my stuff and there’s no agenda. Is this a little weird?

Is 2k too big of a gift for a new friend (<4 months)? I went on vacation with my sons and a new friend and her son for a week. I put the hotel and amusement park tickets on my card for simplicity. After the vacation, she asked me to give her an itemized bill and I got busy with work and life and forgot about it for a month. She now has a lot of big home repairs she has to take care of and it's holiday season so I feel ridiculous asking for 2k from a single mom who makes 10% of what I do. (Cont.)

Hi everyone! I currently work in an outpatient setting doing individual therapy but am planning to leave my job. I have a handful of patients, some of which have been meeting with me consistently for over 2 years, that I suspect will want to remain in touch after I leave. Has anyone ever done this before? If so, what did it look like for you and the patient? Or do you advise against it and if so why? I’ve been researching this and can understand both sides of the argument. Thanks in advance!

Hi Fishes,

What is the avg and max CTC one can expect with total 7 YOE in IT operations (support) with last 3 years as a Senior Analyst/Team Lead?

I want to make a switch into the Consulting domain. I'm somewhat of a quasi-consultant in my current role, I like the Consultant job profile and feel I'm capable of doing well in this field. Also want to work at 1 of the Big 4 🙂. What are my chances - is it even possible for me to switch? How much hike can I expect?

Current CTC is 11L. B.Tech grad

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

My company cut staff to 4 days/wk to save funds. I was getting requests from coworkers for docs needed urgently on our day off (fridays). I would oblige them. But then, I learned that those same coworkers had been put back to 5 days because they were deemed “essential“. I felt foolish and decided to stop working on fridays. One EVP (not the GC) in particular has been aggressively texting/calling me on fridays. How Do I tactfully respond? My out-of-office email is not enough of a hint...

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?
