Deloitte Strategy đ Can someone explain how the services under commercial consulting are broken down, specifically strategy? How is Monitor Deloitte a service? How does the M&A services under S&A differ from the M&A/Restructuring services under Financial Advisory? Is the strategic growth and transformation strat/design team considered Monitor or is all of S&A considered Monitor? I thought the Monitor name wasnât being used by Deloitte anymore so Iâm a little confused.

This is what it was when I worked there. Outside of the US, M&A is folded in to S&A I believe.
Monitor doesnât exist as a group - itâs just a brand and the usage is obtuse and confusing. This also might vary by country. The monitor group in the US is split between cust strategy in c&m, m&a, and s&a.
The difference between M&A in financial advisory and M&A in consulting is that the former are accountants and the latter are strategists. The consulting M&A team answer questions of whether or not a company should acquire a company, what company to acquire, perform a commercial due diligence, etc, while the advisory m&a team is more focused on financial or operational due diligences. The consulting team also does integration/divestitures. Also advisory is paid less.
we have six offering portfolios. Under each we have offerings. S&A has strategy, analytics & cognitive, and a couple other new offerings. Each offering is further broken down into market offerings. Strategy has 4-5 and they include strategic growth transformation, tech strategy, business transformation and a few others. Experiences hires I believe are assigned to the offering level.
This is to your first question
M&A is a separate offering portfolio in consulting. The financial advisory is a different firm: Deloitte advisory. Not sure what they do but they are two completely different organizations. Work wise Iâm not sure what the difference is
Advisory is a lot more numbers - think valuation, financial due diligence, modelling and transaction advisory (actually running a sell side process - finding a buyer, creating collaterals etc)
Consulting M&A is more post merger integration / divesture management or operational due diligence.
Iâve worked for both and theyâre quite complementary - understanding why a transaction was done vs what do you need to do to ensure the transaction gets to day 1.

No monitor is not all of S&A for sure. I donât know who gets to use monitor anymore.
Yes the strategy offering folks def use it. Not sure who else. Itâs a recent development. Our rfp response are now supposed to be on monitor Deloitte branded decks. Not sure where theyâre going with this but the plan is that for all the âstrategyâ type of work theyâll go to market as monitor. Rich Nanda has several initiatives laid out to make it a thing. Havenât heard much besides that
Monitor Deloitte is currently being used as the external brand (selling work, recruiting etc) for the strategy offerings under S&A
M1, is it a big shop?
In the US S&A has Strategy, Analytics and Cognitive, AI and DataOps under it.
Monitor doesn't exist (no one is assigned to it) but Strategy and A&C both seem to use it in decks at times and M&A is its own thing.
From Canada here and can confirm from an org structure perspective monitor still exists
Thanks
