Do any of you struggle with “responsiveness”? I’m getting flagged in my reviews as not being responsive enough and I feel like it’s somewhat related to my attention issues. Granted, I’m in biglaw and people here have extremely high standards for what they consider “responsive” (had one person tell me they expect replies to all emails within 10-15 minutes). (Cont.)

But I think it’s because I’ll either go into hyperfocus mode when I’m drafting and forget to look at my inbox for a while, or when things are moving really fast and I keep switching back and forth between various things and forget to finish something up. Like I just don’t have the same kind of ability to task-switch easily. I either get crazy focused or have no focus whatsoever and the task-switching makes me so scattered. Anyone have anything that helps them with this?

I struggle with this too. It's been better since i gave myself permission to give a short answer ("received, will do!" / "will respond shortly") so I did notnhave to fully task switch. If you want responsiveness, that's the best I can do.

One of my frustrations with myself (writing it out here so I can work on it) is that I will print out something that I need, such as a traffic collision report. I will read it without actually reading it. This results in spending time without actually retaining info. Does this happen to anyone else? I’ve found that I can actually focus when I truly force myself, but often this happens after I’ve discovered an error or an important piece of information that I should have noticed earlier.

There’s been some posts on the best planning tools (e.g. planners, calendars, etc.), but my question is how do ppl make sure they use them? I get them and am excited about the possibility of them helping for about a week then I just stop using it. Even if I find it helpful I just never stay consistent with it. Does this happen to others? Any tricks or suggestions to stay consistent using planners, to do lists, calendars, etc.

New midlevel associate at a big law firm and still ramping up. I’m having a lot of trouble tackling small or discrete tasks that are either administrative in nature or otherwise because I don’t have a full plate and something to focus on. Can anyone offer advice for helping with adderall side effects? I was diagnosed a few months ago and I am new to medication. I have been taking 20 mg xr in the morning but have a terrible crash around 2/3pm each day where I just get very very tired. Doctor recommended 10mg ir mid day to combat but I still experience pretty severe fatigue as a side effect. Just wondering if anyone has found any natural strategies to cope or mitigate. Thanks!

I’m one of the only attorneys in my Texas firm that had electricity, internet, and water this week. I was warm and comfortable but still could not get any work done because things going on in the outside world are distracting. I just want to know, I’m not the only one that struggled this week to do any work, right?

One of the things that my ADD coach helped me with was realizing that I wasn’t prioritizing activities that help me feel recharged. Between work and home responsibilities, I was just burnt out and overwhelmed.

So now when I start to get burned out I focus on reducing auditory overwhelm, getting outside, listen to music, get comfortable, read a fun book, etc.

As we’re heading into the weekend, what are some things you do to recharge and give yourself a break?

After 4 years I want to leave law because of my adhd! I have been to 4 different firms and at each place I feel like I have been “found out”. At every place at least one attorney catches me about my attention to detail. I am so down on myself now. I can’t bring myself to care about small details that I know don’t actually matter. Sitting at a desk all day in word documents is the ultimate form of torture to me. My strengths are talking to people. I am super outgoing. Looking for a new career
