Tell them you restict it to extended family. And you are happy to connect on LinkedIn.
Yes, tell them it’s strictly for your personal life and you don’t mix personal and professional. It’s never a good idea to accept work colleagues as friends on any social media—you never know why they’re wanting to get into your personal life.

Connecting with any current coworkers is always a bad idea, but especially your manager, unless you post nothing but kitten videos.
You can tell her that you have a policy of not "friending" anyone you currently work with. I've had to do that and it was accepted just fine.
That is really out of bounds for a supervisor or manager. That could go terribly wrong for them as well as you. Either way, I would just be honest and tell them you want to keep your off work hours, off work. As well as they should want to do the same.
I actually blocked mine before they friended me. However I do know co workers that told me they don't use their Facebook for that and they only use it to look up places to sell ads for the company.
Absolutely not
Absolutely never. I only add people i work with who I already spend a lot of actual friend time out of the office. Otherwise, I only add work people I like after I've left the company. It's hard to tell who will stab you in the back at work, and employers use any resume updates, like LinkedIn, to signal you're looking and might fire you. (Yes, I've seen some companies do that]. No, I block coworkers until I leave. Then add the ones I trust after.
I had to block all of my coworkers due to them vogue booking me. Save your mental health and keep coworkers away from your social media.
likely the reason I am a serial entreprenuer, I like to be surrounded by people who are my friends and can act in that capacity. I tried for a long time to work for a quasi gov faction and maybe I was before my time so to speak, but I did maintain that balance, distance and seperate work/life balance and it got me in more trouble that good, being an outsider. Then again, I was a minion then and not the boss. I am typically in charge now with everything I do and surround myself with people that I can be friends with both in and out of work, with drawing the line when folks need personal space, and with those better than me.
Having spend more than a few years in IT Security, I do not have any social Media accounts, except LinkedIn and even there very restricted on who I 'friend'.
I tell them it’s my personal policy not to friend current coworkers but that I’m happy to once one of us moves on.
You are entitled to a personal life and a social media account for friends and family. Say that you keep your personal life and your job separate.
I have never accepted requests from managers or co-workers on any social platforms. Those are strickly for people that are friends or really close associates that I can trust and be myself and not in work mode all the time.
Absolutely no. I’ve also stopped participating in any after activities with the firm.
LinkedIn only for current co-workers. I'm friends with ex-coworkers on IG
This wouldn't be a problem if you don't have social media
No. I barely even speak to my coworkers in person.
Tell em to F off
In my opinion, it's best to keep my work and personal social media separate, so I probably wouldn't accept.
I deleted all my socials years ago, but decided to use LinkedIn.
I added all my co-workers, including Managers and Directors on LinkedIn.. unknowingly almost to my demise.
Someone within the company ratted on me directly to Management.
My personal views and opinions on Safety almost got me terminated on the spot.
Where I thought I was maturely expressing my views as an adult, in a forum with peers, highlighting common opinions based on common sense and life experience and totally innocuous was allegedly seen as polarising and had “potential” to affect the reputation of the business.
The spin I was sold was that “my opinions” could be taken as views of the company I worked for as well and affect client relationships.
Bit of a stretch of imagination and definitely an unnerving example of control.
I deleted my LinkedIn on the spot as a result.
Take this as a warning.
Always keep your work and personal lives separate. Choose what you share carefully, as there are those out there that was use what they can as leverage against you. Very disappointing.
That's why you block all coworkers as soon as you start. That way you can say you don't have social media.
No no explanation needed
Unless your Facebook is set to private it wouldn't matter they can see what you post
Similarly, managers should NEVER accept friends requests from employees. As a manager, I actively discourage it. Don't have a work environment that is like a family. Eventually the two families will compete. You don't want that. Professional partitions are needed to protect their family and you're business.
