Do you feel like as a SpEd professional that your trainings and demands on your time are sometimes significantly more than regular teachers? We've had 4 training days this year in our district so far and for every single one the teachers are always done with theirs 1-2 hours earlier. Since that has happened 4 times now it is starting to really add up. Just feeling frustrated! Not sure why our meetings need to be so much longer.

We have to attend staff meetings plus special ed department meetings. Training depends on what the topic is. This year everything is about the new IEP we have in MA. It is a lot of work and a lot of language changes. Classroom teachers are part of a literacy coaching thing so their training looks different.

Makes sense. Good luck with all the changes it sounds like you have to deal with!

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10. I have no aide and most of my classes are around 14 kids. Some with behavior plans that are only out of our behavior room setting for my class... Is anybody else out there going through illegal class sizes for self-contained? How are you dealing? Maybe a vent session is in order.
