Do you mentor others at work? I try to at least have one mentee but it can get time consuming.

No, not really. At least not in any designated or formal way. I'll try to be helpful with new people and answer their questions and all that. But I don't really have a role in helping them along.

I have been paired up with new hires in the past to help show them the ropes. I try to be helpful to requests for help outside of that. Nothing formally defined beyond that.

Yes and agree it can be time consuming but I enjoy it

I wouldn't say I mentor specifically. However, I do like to make new hires know that I am available as a resource to ask questions to. We have so many programs, processes, and stakeholders that being able to ask questions to someone is very helpful.

I have not been on a project for over 3 months. Since I joined, I have been put in training. The training got extended by a month and now it's close to 4 months since I joined and without a project.

What should I do? People say that I'm lucky to get paid without doing any work, but it is stressing me out. I need the experience. The uncertainty is freaking me out, with rumours of layoffs and the certification program and all.

How do I get into a project? How long do I have to wait more?

How does a sole engineer at a company go about getting management to actually care how production machines run? I’m the only mechanical engineer at my company dealing with a half dozen cranky production managers who think that I can “work my magic” on a machine.
