I would say your communication skills are your most important attributes alongside your technical knowledge . You need to be able to listen, hear, understand, create solutions, drive expectation/schedule. Essential to build positive relations between teams, so everyone has success.
The more you work with humans, the more human behavior seems to matter. Fair enough I guess?

I don't think *engineering* changes. However, for an individual engineer, interpersonal interactions naturally increase at the expense of technical work as the career progresses. Staying technically focused is possible, but often difficult and can have a negative career impact.
