Do you think now is the best time to buy an EV since the EV tax credit is going away in September? My wife and I are contemplating buying a Tesla, but not sure what the right move is. I wonder if the prices will go down in the future, and it's probably better to look into the purchase later. Would love your thoughts on this!

If you’re okay rolling the dice, waiting might bring down sticker prices, especially if competition heats up and there’s excess inventory by year-end. If you’re near a decision on the Tesla and want the tax break, make your move soon. Either way, the EV space moves fast, so staying flexible is key.

“Will the value of a Tesla go down?”

Like a lead weight. Moral objections about the brand aside, it’s going to be a terrible investment to buy one new, credits or no. Look at the used market and you’ll see that very clearly.

List prices will kind of depend on how the spat between Musk and Trump go, imo. Tesla uses lots of parts from overseas that could face stiff tariffs, especially if he gets a bug up his butt to punish Musk.

I’m in a similar boat and I’ve decided to wait.

If I *needed* a vehicle, I’d pull the trigger now.

But I just want one, so that’s not enough to justify the purchase.

I think your best bet is to buy used — “used, but like new” purchases reflect the tax credit in the market, and given depreciation is *so* much higher on an EV, with little uptick in long term maintenance, I would find something 2-3 years out

What will happen is what always has happened in the past few years where OEM’s pass costs to the consumer and prices that said new prices will go up and they used market will get a lot of attention
the good models will get gone quick especially the CPO’s and then the used market will go up The same type of thing happened a few years ago

Interview tomorrow for a tax associate opening at RSM. Been working in a mid-size city (different firm) that is about 70 minutes from this new home office in a larger metro. How flexible is WFH or dual model going forward post Covid? Am interested in this position and going to tax, but not be able to relocate for family reasons. Don’t want to drive 700 miles per week M-F. What will dual model be like going forward? 1-2 times week, 4-5 month? Seems like tax was more flexible than audit pre-Covid
