Not a lot of interest when there is an internal post. Many are just happy where they are and not interested in a change at all. The company is on the small side of mid-size, so that plays a part too. Does anyone at a large company see a lot of movement on those internal posts? I would expect that.
Thanks for sharing, that is very interesting! Internal posts are treated more as an emergency move than something fitting. I would not have thought that at a larger company.
We have people who apply internally and move up, or move to other teams. So the process does work. There are times when it seems that someone would rather hire from outside, but officially internal applicants are supposed to get preference. Anyway, it can go either way, but internal moves do happen on a regular basis.
Interesting that you mention that "someone would rather hire from outside", now that I think of it that could also be a reason, it must have to do with politics as usual. Some managers want a fresh hire that can advocate for them.
the talent pool is bad for internal transfers. Just bottom of the barrel talent from my experience.
I see this a lot. Internal postings exist, but without real support, visibility, and manager buy in, they rarely convert. When they do work, it is usually because mobility is actively encouraged, not just checked as a box.
