It’s important that you’re passionate about any job.
ADHD is an interest-based mental system. If you’re not interested in the work, it’s hard to be motivated.
Untreated ADHD would impact pretty much anything, even if I’m interested in the job. Medication and therapy have been life-changing. If you like copywriting, you can definitely do it!
One thing I’ll caution against with meds is they can make you anxious if you take a larger dose than you need, so it’s important to work with a psychiatrist to make sure you get that right.

I find that vyvanse helps with brain fog which in turn helps lock me in projects that might otherwise feel mundane. There has to be a base level interest but it significantly lowers the barrier to entry in terms of what I can organically invest my attention into

Hi there, have you been clinically diagnosed with ADHD? It sounds like your issue lies within your last sentence. Are you worried you are not suited to be a cw because of how much time/money/resources/effort you’ve invested in it so far? If so, where’s that pressure coming from?
It sounds like you love writing, but maybe not copywriting? ADHD may be a contributing factor or maybe that’s not it at all. I would dig deeper and assess what’s going on beneath the surface.
Here are a few things that will help you:
- Make a list of the things you love about your job and then the things you loathe about it.
What you are doing is identifying which parts of the job “strengthen” you (give you energy, joy, and fulfillment) and which parts “weaken” you (deplete you of energy).
If there are significantly more things in the love list than the loathe list, then it’s probably not the job.
Many times our issues lie within the relationships we have with ourselves. You are worried about motivation and sustaining interest in your work, why is that important to you?
