Aspects of the job are great and others not so much. It’s about finding a career with a tolerable balance (and “tolerable” is person specific).
The aspects I like far outweigh what I dislike
That’s part of the like/dislike. Once the dislikes outweigh the likes and you cannot change the dislikes, probably time to bounce. And remember to give feedback on dislikes to HR on exit meeting
Made the switch to the IRS LB&I this year and love it. If you enjoy audit and/or forensic, highly recommend looking into a Revenue Agent position while we're still on a hiring wave.
That's amazing! Yes, I also love forensic and tax. I went to an online event LB&I did and absolutely fell in love with the work description. I do also know they are competitive, getting a position is most likely hard but still applied to GS13 position. I am trying my best to go back to tax & will continue applying for any future openings. Thank you for the feedback & insight.
I like paying my bills
Nobody does everyone is pretending or trying to convince themselves. It’s impossible.
You really don't know anyone that loves his job? I know plenty of people that do but get tired sometimes after 15 or 20 years in a profession. It's sad that you are surrounded by people who are faking this.
Hate accounting making the switch to fintech/data analyst
Nice! Thanks for the advice and best of luck to you.
Wouldn’t say I like my job. But I do not dislike my job. It beats all the others I’ve had.
I don’t mind it most of the time and I get paid fairly well
I like it more than accounting. But I definitely wouldn't do it for free.
What job do you like more than accounting?
I loved working in Tax, only the hours were a pain. I left for PE Accounting for more wlb. I loved PA because it was usually a surprise the project/client we were going to be working on and in PE Accounting is the same damn client every month/quarter/year.
I always find a way to turn my job into something I can enjoy. I look for new opportunities to learn and do my work differently. I offer up other skills I have to help with interesting projects. Dont focus on mundane tasks. Find ways to work more efficiently to leave time for growth and creativity.
I like accounting work generally speaking. I hate elements of my job that make something I otherwise enjoy sometimes unbearable; particularly the work load.
I hated accounting so went internal audit at a bank, focusing on the operational and transformation projects, it is fascinating and great W/L balance + paid a lot more than most accountants. Recommend if you can get in.
Paid more than an accountant ? Can you give numbers and location ?
nope - ever since we got a new boss. She has no clue as to what we do and doesn't respect us, yet she wants us to respect her.
I love parts of it but im tired. Im starting to feel like a slave!
I didn't "love" having to work 9-6 every day and miss out on time with my kids. I think most of us would agree we would rather not be required to work 40+ hours a week to be able to survive... but I think it's possible to love or at least like aspects of a job/career. I was fired from my last job and I was really upset for weeks. I don't miss the toxic corporate culture or the long hours, but I do miss my team and my clients. I was lucky to have such an amazing team and client base. Hopefully I can find that again!
same...this 9 to 6 hours is killing me...I really miss the flexibility I had before...I had more time to do things...now I just work and come home too tired to do anything else...
My job has challenged me until the new hire came onboard. This new hire criticized me for my work to the supervisor. Top things off this new hires claimed years of experience when I asked him to assist me he proved he didn't know how to do the task. My superior has been giving this person the work I was assigned to do made another colleague a manager over my years of experience. I feel I'm being aged out being the oldest one in the area.
No- the actual profession sucks in general- this is one of the steady professions and it pays the bills
mortgage & bills to pay lol if you like your job that's the bonus lol
40 years experience here and I’ve detested the last 12 months.
I’m fed up of clearing up the messes my predecessors have made, those which cause liabilities for the company. It’s not news that’s well received by management either.
I’m concerned at the level of talent being churned out of late by professional bodies.
I do, but there is a lot of stress to work through.
