Always been a capitalist industry trying to convince people to buy/do/think things they likely don’t need to. Paid for by brands with dubious intentions and negative impacts.
But I expect it’s feeling more uncomfortable/obvious right now because the pretence of brands and agencies standing for anything ethical/environmental/cultural is…no longer trendy. In fact, it’s politically encouraged to reject these things.
Was it ever not like this?
Please tell me when it was that selling people shit they did not need was not immoral? Did that just happen when Trump got elected?
