Does anyone ever want to get fired to push them to move on? I’ve been at my firm for 10 years, I make good money, but I’m bored and want a change of scenery. I just don’t want to put in the effort to schedule interviews and go through all that subterfuge. I’d rather get fired and have some severance to cover me as I look for a new job.

I tried it before and even got myself on a PIP. After not even trying they removed me from the PIP and I stayed another two years.
Was really looking forward to the severance check and relaxing 😂

Fired for cause usually means no severance, but we have budgetary layoffs every year that provide severance.

You’re an associate 10 years in? I’m amazed they haven’t fired you. Most consulting firms are up or out.

funny

I’m not an associate. I just haven’t updated my title on the app.

My only fears are how much of a pay cut I have to take for a new job and how long it might take to find it.

Every f*ing day…

Hey you, weary teacher, I see you.
I hear you sigh,
eyes closed,
Head in your hands...

I know the things you think,
the doubts,
fears,
the frustrated pain...

I know you are trying.
I know you work hard.
Sometimes it seems like you’re the only one
in the whole damn school who cares...

I know.
I see.
I hear.
I care.

You are the difference.

I care about the tale you are creating.
Please keep writing. Please.

2nd year assoc. here. Finding myself spending 3-5 hours researching/analyzing issues that should only take 1-3 hours. I find myself questioning - for every assignment - is this the issue I was asked to look into? Did I read that case right? Does this analysis make sense? And I end up reading the same cases over and over. Does anyone have advice for being more confident/efficient on tasks, especially research?

Tax question:
Based out of NYC, so I pay NY state income tax AND NYC city tax (for living in the five boroughs). I left in March to live in a state across the country with significantly less income tax. I can change my work location pretty easily, but I need to change my permanent address to save on NYC city tax right? Does not living in the state you work in have consequences/tax penalties?

What is a simple way to explain to my boyfriend that investing in equity with an expected return of 10% is better than paying off debt that is growing at a rate of 6%. He has student loans and is adamant that he wants to pay all of them off immediately before saving any retirement money. I understand that many individuals use this strategy but I think investing in index funds for the long haul is better from a wealth accumulation perspective, without even factoring in tax implications of 401k
