Does anyone know how Orrick tracks going into the office (i.e., just swipes, laptop plugged in, etc.)?

Couldn't speak to Orrick but my firm (not Milbank, so technically not biglaw FWIW) tracks door swipes. I would be surprised if whether your laptop was plugged in on-site was Orrick's preferred method. It seems like it would be technically more difficult to muster that info.

My firm does laptop plug ins (used to be door swipes).

Door swipes at my firm (not Orrick)

We did swipes when I was at Orrick (Wheeling, WV location).

Badge swipes at my firm (not Orrick). Seems to be the universal way to track.

During interview I was speaking to the hiring manager. Felt interview was going well. He seemed impressed by my answers, excited by my skills, and even gave me a tour of the office. At the end, he asked about my home life. When I spoke of my 3 young kiddos, the manager got a little taken back and replied Oh you have children? I said yes ages 3, 5, and 7. He then proceeded to ask me about daycare arrangements and if I can be reliable. Red flag as his demeanor changed and made me feel unworthy.

My therapist just told me I'm depressed..do you ever feel like they tell you things you hear a lot or could have figured out on your own? Like take care of yourself, it's ok to feel such and such, etc. I'm still newer to therapy so wondering if that's the common experience? Do you ever have moments where you're like wow that actually is eye opening and I wouldn't have gotten that from reading self help books and websites etc?

If your goal is to be as high ranking of an in house counsel position as possible, how would you structure your career progression? Is it better to stay in big law as long as possible and then transition as a partner, or is it more valuable to get relevant experience by going in house as a mid level/senior associate? Practice area is IP: working in patent pros, litigation, and tech transactional to varying degrees if that affects the answer.
