First year associate and I feel zero motivation since I started work. I was driven in law school and I’m trying to find that drive again. Wanting to learn and be a good lawyer for some reason isn’t enough. I see myself just waiting for the weekend/deal to be over. Only plan to stay in big law for 3-5 years. Anyone else experience this?

I am looking for some direction on how to approach a conversation with my manager who prefers processes that are unnecessarily time consuming . She seems to be disinterested when I offer a suggestion on a more proficient way to do something even when she sees that very clearly it is a far easier process producing the same end result. A new analyst has joined our team and we often give them models/ slides but don’t always ask them if they know all of the accounting principles to be able to make minute adjustments to EBITDA or free cash flow. We are a FIG platform, so the knowledge required is relatively unique as well and not as easy to google as corporate transactions. Is there a better way to coach the analyst short of just throwing them in the deep end to figure it out or should we wait for them to ask us for help?
