Does anyone use a brokerage account instead of a checking account? Mine offers a fee free debit/atm card and free checks which I'd rarely use but starting to question whether it is worth maintaining my "big bank" checking account that requires a $1500 minimum balance.

I also have a local credit union checking/savings that I'd use if I need any services or to deposit cash and a HYSA that gets my paycheck, is used for mortgage and credit card payments, and to transfer to checking or investments.

Honestly worth opening a sofi account if only for the bonuses ($25 via sign up through referral and $300 for direct deposit). No fees or minimums. 2.5% interest.

I ditched big bank checking and their ridiculous minimums and fees years ago. Now have a combination of checking and minimal savings in a credit union, hysa, and a checking account at my brokerage.

Credit union is in my neighborhood, and is my primary day-day bank. Transferring between banks does take a few days, so if, for instance I'm going overseas and want to use my brokerage checking ATM catd (no fees internationally) I just have to plan to have $ transferred.

I use a fidelity cash management account.

The funds are held in various fdic insured banks.

Same, I'd highly recommend this. The debit card reimburses all ATM fees too. Good for those $15 fees in Vegas casinos

Is that hybrid brokerage account FDIC insured?

It's not hybrid, it's a brokerage account so SIPC.

Have money invested in S&P 500, and now starting to regret not having diversified to international stocks as well. Would want to diversify now to buy a total stock market index, however since S&P 500 dropped more than that index, not sure it’s worth to crystallize losses to do that. The alternative is to stop buying S&P 500 and start buying other markets as separate ETFs, to eventually bring in line approx. with total stock market index. Any advice on the best course of action?

Can people working side gigs as consultants receive deferred compensation? Or has anyone seen other creative, legal ways that consultants can work now and get paid later? I have a side gig that could end at any time, and I don’t envision it going into 2022. Probably the antithesis of this bowl - but need some advice. This is for a house in a Southern metro. Built in 1960s completely remodeled in 2000s with some very recent additional remodeling of kitchen and bathrooms. Well kept house. The price will be nearly $1M, the same as something built in 2010+ with similar square footage (because a lot of the price is the lot, its a super expensive zip). Should I steer clear because of the age? Will it cost a ton in maintenance and utility bills?

Do you have a set $ you save every month? I'm 27, I've been tracking spend since 2020 and my $ saved has very strong variances MoM. If we consider 2021 a more "regular" year, I varied from $600 saved one month up to $3.2k in another (though that was partially due to a job change)... It's not affecting my overall saving % (was 46%) but wondering if I should try to even it out a bit more?
