Honestly worth opening a sofi account if only for the bonuses ($25 via sign up through referral and $300 for direct deposit). No fees or minimums. 2.5% interest.
If you need:
Start earning more money with SoFi Checking and Savings. You’ll earn up to 2.50% APY and pay no account fees. Use my link to sign up and you’ll get a $25 bonus and up to $300 when you set up direct deposit. https://www.sofi.com/invite/money?gcp=4516e7c6-2438-4415-a56f-3d0df658c2d5&isAliasGcp=false
I ditched big bank checking and their ridiculous minimums and fees years ago. Now have a combination of checking and minimal savings in a credit union, hysa, and a checking account at my brokerage.
Credit union is in my neighborhood, and is my primary day-day bank. Transferring between banks does take a few days, so if, for instance I'm going overseas and want to use my brokerage checking ATM catd (no fees internationally) I just have to plan to have $ transferred.
I use a fidelity cash management account.
The funds are held in various fdic insured banks.
Same, I'd highly recommend this. The debit card reimburses all ATM fees too. Good for those $15 fees in Vegas casinos
Is that hybrid brokerage account FDIC insured?

It's not hybrid, it's a brokerage account so SIPC.
