There are hybrid roles, in which you need to align with the hiring manager on expectations of how often you need to be in the office. There is no fixed policy for hybrid, however I’ve generally seen HM require you to be in the same time zone (that’s a requirement for my role for example).
Then there’s also fully remote where you can be wherever you want.

I’m a hiring manager myself and the reason I request that folks be in the same time zone is that the rest of the team is all in PST. We have several meetings a week that occur at 4-5 PM PST, it’s not feasible nor a good experience to have one EST member staying up till 7/8 PM at night each day.
