This thread is interesting, strange and hilarious all at one time. I will be honest, there are so many lunches out, client dinners, breakfast meetings, etc that sometimes a simple sandwich and chips sounds really good. Eating out every meal gets old after a while - the ham sandwich is breaking the monotony!
I think there certain assumptions that exist about lifestyle of PPEDs. They (you) eat gold off gold, defecate gold, and then eat more gold chased with fresh blood of staff, seniors, and managers. Sr managers do not donate blood cause they're already being trained for eating gold etc.
They're plenty of partners in our office that dress rather simply, drive cars suitable to mortals, and eat freaking sandwiches. OP gotta grow up.
I stand for Partners' right to have a sandwich, be it turkey, roast beef, grilled chicken, tuna, BLT, Bologna, breakfast sandwich, cheese dream, tuna melt, avocado toast, chicken quesadilla, burger, cheesesteak, clam roll, chowmein, club, crab cake, Cuban, cudighi, dagwood, Denver's, diablo, fluffernut, frenchdip, fried brain, Gerber, ham and cheese, hamdog, dog brown, hotdogs, italian, Mexican, French, curry fry, chicken tikka, pizza role, jalapeno role, cuzzini, munchies, hero sandwich, hero burger, open face, side face, mixcurry, plaid, stripper's delight, roast pepper, California classic, falafel gyro, halal sub, goat cheese... or even a ham sandwich
This is a "partner track" type of post
You can buy everyone's lunch, then
This is the dumbest thing to worry about ever. Let people be. Maybe they have eaten out every meal and just wanted something simple. Maybe they don’t have time. Maybe their spouse loving made it for them. Maybe they feel better eating simple things like a ham sandwich rather than eating out all the time.
Who cares? Mind your own business.
All this discussion simply because a partner was craving a ham sandwich????? Bruhhhhhhh. Let that partner enjoy that ham!
Wait... People actually notice and care about such things? I think half the partners and directors in my office pack sandwiches or leftovers every day. I probably eat out for lunch without it being a client/firm event maybe 4x a year. Simple answer is I'm cheap, but also I can eat my packed lunch at my desk in 5 minutes and get back to work.
It drives me crazy to see people throw away money on lunch or coffee. Save it for retirement, or vacations, or your own private island but for the love of G'd, stop wasting money on lunches and coffee. I say keep eating that ham sandwich!
My lunch is usually dinner leftovers. I would love a ham sandwich.
You must not be busy if you have time to go out for lunch every day. All the partners I work with normally work through lunch but go to nice places when they get the chance
I'll cheers to that
You don’t get rich by spending money....
I don’t know if I agree at all with this. Whether I made partner or inherited millions, no amount of money could keep me away from Mcgriddles, Chick-fil-a, or Wendy’s spicy nugs.
Everyone’s working from home now the partner can eat his ham sandwich in peace. As to the OP who knows they might order takeout or make there own sandwich. Today I had a PB&J.
Later this week I am going to my local BBQ joint and get some takeout, then this weekend I am heading over to the fish market and get a couple meals to go. You have to help our the local businesses.
Why???
Woooooow. So much emotion over a simple ham sandwich! As a non-American, I’ve been intrigued about the expectations of some people in the US to achieve a certain standard of living/drive certain cars/wear certain clothes etc.
The majority of my clients don’t care what I wear, drive or eat, they care about how well I advise them and help them achieve their objectives. I enjoy cooking and do this a lot with my family in my limited free time. I enjoy a 99c hot dog as much as dining in a Michelin-starred restaurant. I grew up in a working class household where none of my family had ever been to college, much less aspired to be a partner at a Big 4 firm.
Bottom line- everyone has different preferences and circumstances. Let’s be kind and try not to judge others on basic stuff like being partial to a freaking sandwich.
Jesus. Weeks later and over a 100 replies later and I'm still getting notifications over this damn ham sandwich!
For additional context, I know this partner makes very good money, and an extra 1-2k per year in lunch is not gonna affect him in the slightest. We also work in NYC so grabbing a quick bite or ordering through seamless, Ubereats etc is something that can be done very quickly and easily.
The main point of this post was not to judge the partner, but to judge his choice of eating a crappy ham sandwich over something better. I confronted him about it and he just said "I just really like ham sandwiches". So case closed. Guy just prefers a ham sandwich to what I would consider a "good lunch"
Makes me want a ham sandwich 🥪
The more important point is why are they at their desk for lunch? Partners should be taking staff, clients or prospects out everyday. Bringing in food and sitting with the team at a client is great too. Never eat alone.
Ummmm maybe he wants to cat h up on e-mail? Maybe nobody likes the guy? Hate to burst your bubble but not all partners are beloved by everyone!
Why?
Maybe He or She is working and doesn’t have time to go out? 😉
Doesnt make sense that this kind of comment is coming from manager, chill out..... other than him eating that sandwich, you dont know any other facts about him
Sometimes I see it as a quick lunch rather than a cheap lunch.
Why does anyone care what someone else is eating for lunch. Not our business. End of story.
