Ever been pushed into a leadership role you didn’t actually want? I was perfectly happy in my lane, doing my work, but when my manager left, I somehow became the “temporary” team lead. That was eight months ago. Now I’m juggling my old responsibilities plus managing people, sitting in on endless meetings, and dealing with conflict I never signed up for without any bump in pay. Part of me feels guilty for wanting to step back, but part of me knows I’m burning out fast.

When did you know your firm wasn't right for you? I'm not sure if it's just the stress of being a new attorney with a family or if my job isn't the right fit. I work in civil litigation and am consistently below my billables. I can't stay late because my kids need me and I can't work on the weekends because I have to maintain my house and take care of my kids. I'm being constantly told to work harder, stay later, etc but it's not practical. Or am I not approaching this with the right mindset?

Big4 Partners: could you provide some insights into how the Big4 pensions work. Assume one becomes partner at 40, and then retires at 50 after full vesting, how much annual $$ you get after retirement?

When I negotiated my comp, all my discussions were around me being a junior and I only accepted my comp for that reason (would not have accepted if I was step above junior since it was low). Negotiations happened with HR, but my offer letter and documents never mention junior (but I have proof from HR saying I am a junior). How do I approach this with my boss as I’m not sure she’s aware I’m actually technically a junior? Revolving around asking for a move up + raise

I’m currently at a studio that has been good to me. They took a chance and allowed me to change career paths. They gave me numerous opportunities that lead me to now, being the head of a department. The big guys at the top has expressed they could see me as the guy to run the company one day but it’s all talk and possibilities right now. I’ll have to wait for now. On the other hand, I have an offer in hand from a much bigger company to be part of their business development. Any advice?
