Everywhere I go whether it’s for work or personal I never seem to fit in or belong and I really struggle with comfortability. I strongly desire to finally feel like I’m doing the work I’m destined to and I just don’t. I dont know what to do or how to find my place

Work is not your destiny. Your existential crisis likely has nothing to do with your job.

You need therapy & you need to stick with it for a while. These are old feelings and you need to work thru them to have a chance at happiness.

You're probably not a 9-5'er, looked into starting your own thing, contracting, freelancing. I felt the exact same way and had to make my own path.

I struggled with this for a long time too and also did therapy. I learned to think of my job as a job - not my life’s purpose, just a means to pay for my lifestyle. It’s helped me appreciate the aspects of my life outside of work.

I just accepted an offer in writing. The new job will start the background check next which I’ve been told it may take a while to complete. My start date at the new job isn’t until 2023 so there is some time for me to turn in my notice. I don’t anticipate any hiccups in the background check but is it wise to wait until the background check is complete before turning in my notice?

7 year lawyer here. Been with the same big national firm all 7 years (not BigLaw) doing complex litigation. Been working remote a long time due to moving around for wife’s job. As a result of the moving was bumped off partner track. I’m looking at a great small firm that will be a practice change (but still litigation). I’m told they’re looking for someone with less experience and they’re skeptical because of my experience. It’s frustrating. How do I overcome this?

If I get through processing and go to the CIA for some time, do you think would I be accepted back into patent law later on?
