Exit options from asset management (more sales/ir side)?

Does working at a generalist IB shop put you at a significant disadvantage versus an industry specific bank when it comes to exiting to Corp Dev?

Hi fishes, I have 2 offers-
Thermo Fisher for Data Engineer in AWS and Python and Ameriprise as Lead Developer for Informatica Powercenter. Ameriprise is offering 50k more in my monthly salary than Thermo Fisher. My preference is to join in where I can grow and get a good learning for future career growth. Also, work life balance should be good in the organization.
Please help me with making a clear decision. And i have 8+ YOE.

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?

I’m working in a large fund; market neutral public market strategy funds; am about to be recommended for a promotion to associate. However, an analyst position just opened up internally in Credit, which is where I aspire to be for the next ten years. More growth and more intellectual challenge. I’m conflicted about applying for a lateral transfer and losing out on a promotion. Will I be missing out a promotion or should I negotiate a promotion as part of my application to this role ?

I am engineering manager(have MBA) and I want to get P&L experience. What have you done to get into P&L roles when you didn’t have P&L experience to begin with?

Hello all. I'm a Foreign Medical Graduate who recently moved to US looking fot better life. Currently not Board Certified to work as a physician in US territory. I'm currently working as a Patient Care Technician in a dialysis company because it was the 1st job I could get when I got to the US. Taking my shot in tech sales. Consulting was great experience but enjoyed the relationship and BD aspect more and didn’t see myself climbing to partner. Starting in a junior BD Rep role to learn prospecting and earn quota history. Took a big paycut for the potential future earnings as an Account Exec. Did I dun goof? Probably. But I’ll regret it forever if I didn’t take my chance now when I’m still single and young-ish.

They seem to vary a lot, and are broadly low vs. other markets (mid $100k-low $200k vs TC closer to $300-$400k+ on the coasts). Any observations? Which companies would you look at for more substantial comp outside consulting?

Due to obvious conditions my comp for the calendar year (salary+bonus) is back to 2017 levels although my overall sales are more than double and 1/3 less total comp than last year. I work for a large asset manager and sell alternative investments (PE, RE, Credit, Infra etc) to RIAs, family offices, and multi family offices. I’m currently an associate, but am hoping to get VP this cycle. Any insight on what your comp looks like and how it’s structured would be super helpful!
