Family law associate. I run a docket of about 40-50 cases and work about 50 hours a week. I currently make about 125K (self-employed, no benefits). Between jury trials for CPS termination cases and the highly adversarial nature of family law, I find this job to be incredibly draining, as I have horrid work/life balance and struggle with constant anxiety.

I recently got an offer with a personal injury firm. 110K, full benefits, for a non-litigation/docket manager role. Thoughts?

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?

I've decided to leave public for an Accounting Manager position in private. What are the different types of companies to consider and the pros/cons? What are the best ways to get the position? Former client( filed a bar grievance that was dismissed, sent me a demand letter that an attorney responded to on my behalf, and filed a BBB complaint against my non-BBB law firm) has now pro se filed a lawsuit against me in small claims court. What are your client follow-up/communication policies or practices? I’m hearing more and more that clients don’t like the long periods of time with little to no contact. From my perspective, since I bill for my time, unless I have an update or need something, I don’t initiate a call. Working on a divorce where the father is claiming that he is unemployed because of the previous administration’s actions with DACA (he was brought to the States as a child). I know that the memo rescinding DACA was ultimately vacated—but OC is unsure whether this would count as voluntary unemployment for child support purposes. Solos - how did you know when you were ready to hire a FT attorney?

My client wants both parties to list assets & liabilities as an exhibit to their prenup without values, but waive the right to know the actual valuation of those in the prenup itself. My initial thought is this is a terrible idea & would probably make the prenup easily voidable since a main requirement for a prenup is for both to understand the nature and value of the other’s assets. I will research in my jurisdiction to confirm, but has anyone ever heard of/done this? Thoughts?
