Let's talk unhinged pro se opposing parties. We have one that emails the entire firm every few days with these SCREEDS that are like weird stream of consciousness accusations of baseless criminal and unethical conduct. How does everyone bill for family law matters? Do you always bill hourly or is there some flat fee, monthly or quarterly fee structure that could work, even in contested matters? I have cases that the clients end up spending $20-$40,000 on a contested divorce and this is really out of their budget. I feel that if my firm could charge a flat fee of $10-$15,000, it would still be beneficial from a client predictability and volume standpoint and would generate more referrals.

2 days ago i told the resp on the phone i had a divorce petition to mail him and needed his address. He said he would call me back with the address because he was driving, just moved to a new place, and didn't have it memorized. He never gave it to me but i found it anyway and mailed it certified. Today i found out that he cleared out their bank account. Can i do an emergency hearing to get that money back? He does not physically have the petition yet but i definitely told him it was coming.

How do your firms do payroll? This is like the 5th time in 26 months that paychecks weren’t timely deposited. Allegedly, the boss did everything right and this is something in the payroll company. But his stuff is getting crazy and everyone is out on PTO, I’m kinda like: meet minimum ethical obligations and no more. Once or twice, I understand. But this is becoming regular.

What are your client follow-up/communication policies or practices? I’m hearing more and more that clients don’t like the long periods of time with little to no contact. From my perspective, since I bill for my time, unless I have an update or need something, I don’t initiate a call. Also, clients hold on to important info and don’t initiate a call cause they’re waiting for me to communicate with them.

In OAH the NCP has submitted no actual earnings only hand written sched c (Uber). NCP lied under oath about how pmt for the car was made. Said a friend paid for it and he is paying a friend back. I have bank evidence that shows every car pmt came from NCP Bank and only deposits were from Uber. Problem is the car was paid off in 2018 and the CSO was from 2018. CP asked 4 mod and it was brought up to ? his credibility. How do I get it in since its not about $ now? Judge granted 1wk 4 adtl exhibits

What’s a good starting salary for a newer attorney? I’ve never worked anywhere but in the public sector (even before becoming an attorney).
