This is a tough question because it really depends. I am at a transactional real estate boutique and making comparable (or a bit more) than I would have been making had I stayed at my previous mid-size firm. Meanwhile, I'm sure there are associates at firms similar to my firm making 3/5 as much.
Bottom line is you gotta go in with an idea of what is market and what would be acceptable to you.

just because they’re a smaller firm does not mean they will negotiate with you. mine won’t - you get paid on a scale.
