If you are thinking of starting a law practice or growing one with little or no capital, you need to get the book, “Starting & Growing a Law Practice without Breaking the Bank.
It was written based on personal experience and research. I started my practice 11 years ago in the middle of the 2008/2009 recession with about $500 and I have grown the practice significantly over the years using affordable and available resources.
I also coach solo practitioners and small firm attorneys. https://www.amazon.com/Starting-Growing-Practice-Without-Breaking/dp/1099523303

Greater nyc is pretty broad, in some areas you could get a new build, not sure that’s where I would choose to live though.
Depends a lot on size of house and town. You can definitely find something turnkey in the area for that price. But whether or not it will have everything you want in it will really depend on what your must haves are and where it is located.
Rule of thumb is you’ll spend between 1-4% of the house value annually on repairs and upkeep depending on house age. So for that purchase price, you should be planning a $8k-$32k/yr run rate.
We had a great inspector on my house. We negotiated a concession on a chimney cleaning, among other things, after his inspection. We felt good about it. Long story short, that chimney cleaning turned into a semi-emergency $20k overhaul of our heating system. Be prepared for surprises—even in houses that seem turnkey and go through thorough inspection. It’s part of homeownership.
