Has anyone taken up the Personal Capital investment management service that they offer?

They say they will manage my 401k but to do that they will require my credentials that I use to log into fidelity. Is that normal? Has anyone here done that before? Any feedback or experiences of using them?

Why do you feel you need to pay someone to manage your 401k? I can’t image how that would make sense financially.

Previous PC client - don't bother. They will not make you have better gains than investing in market indexes. Just DIY with VTI or a TDF and be done.

like

I can see why they would need that - because their service includes balancing your portfolio, which could require buying or selling securities.

I wouldn’t use a service like that mostly because it’s expensive and I don’t think needs to be balanced that often anyway, but the potential security issue or error seems like more risk than I would want.

That seems extremely odd to give over your username/password, even you do choose to use their services. Sus

Hi all! I’m new! I started the year off planning to save for a home for myself, then rates skyrocketed. So we’re holding off. Fast forward to the final quarter of the year and we were presented with the idea of a residential assisted living facility. The problem there is we’d still need to acquire property in order to run one. The only difference is the RAL would be a business and is already registered as such. Does anyone have any experience here?

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.

Okay finance gurus, I have an idea and interested in your thoughts. Might be a bad one so be gentle 🙂. I have a 2 yr old and another on the way. Need to start planning for college. I was thinking of buying a condo or 2 in lieu of saving and selling them down the line for tuition. Condos downtown are pretty inexpensive (T3) so it’s financially feasible. But is this a good idea or too risky?
