You get class deduction going from firm to firm within the US depending on where you are coming from and what practice and industry. So it would not be unheard of that people coming from oversees would get class deductions.

Yes I have seen one year deduction lateraling
No - but know of others who received 1-2 year class deductions, so definitely normal. Not uncommon for there to be a review after 6 months or so to determine whether the class year is appropriate.
Coming from Australia, new lawyers commence at the start of the year (rather than mid-year), so class years don't line up exactly with the US firms anyway.
I have also heard that can happen for US lawyers moving to overseas (Hong Kong, Singapore). But in this market, probably not hard to push back on request for a class year deduction if you are in the same practice area and if you feel confident about the work.

In Asia - 1-2 year deductions are common.
It depends. I just completed the process (lateraling from Canada), and some firms wanted a 1 year deduction. Others didn’t.
