For commuting cyclists: what are your thoughts on painted bike lanes? Do you see them as more beneficial than having nothing on the road? Or do you see them as more dangerous and less safe than just ‘taking the lane’?

Personally, I’m at a point where I want to take the very far right of the car lane to avoid getting doored and skip the painted bike lane. It pisses motorists off, but this way you don’t also have the risk of getting doored.

I prefer protected bike lanes

Oh for sure. I guess I should have clarified that my question is specific to when there is an *absence* of a protected bike lane: what do you think of the painted bike lane?

I know in the Netherlands there are some cool mixed-use roads that tend to go at slower speeds. That is an aspirational dream for infrastructure

I support ANY paint on the road. Any visual markers that tell motorists that my riding on the road is endorsed by the law is a good thing.
I pass several streets with lane markings and even one with just sharrows. At least once a month, I go a few blocks out of my way to ride on those streets. The more that motorists see cyclists on the designated routes, the better.

I appreciate this perspective - they do need to see our red blinkys and be reminded of alternative modes of transit

Would it be hard to get a exp associate role in advisory at a B4 as someone with about 10 months in audit at EY, 7 months experience in corporate accounting at a F300 and CPA? Hated my time at the F300 but had thought the grass would be greener in industry. I’m starting a financial analyst position at a major hospital system in my area soon and want to stick with that for a couple years before making a transition but was curious if I just don’t have the right experience for a role in advisory.

How do you try new bikes? A car you can jump in, move the seat and drive around. A bike needs a fit(something for another post), time and it’s impossible to ride all brands to see what “feels” best. Love my local bike shop, but they only sell Trek and are obviously biased.

Is anyone still riding fixed gear?
