Good morning. I am currently a senior associate in BugLaw, and I have applied to several trial attorney jobs in Chicago offices of federal agencies since the start of the pandemic. According to usajobs.gov, my applications to the DOJ and CFTC were “referred,” and my application to the SEC was received and my GS scale verified. But I haven’t received any updates on these applications in over a month. Does anyone here have any insights on these or on federal hiring generally? Thanks!

I've been laid off 3 times in my life. This time has been the absolute worst of them all hands down. In nearly 7 months of looking I've only had a handful of interviews and no offers. I was able to take a temporary job to survive but it's driving me crazy and I need to leave them ASAP. The job market is terrible for professional level job seekers. It feels like companies are making us pay the price after the great resignation during COVID as hiring for many big companies has been deprioritized therefore putting people like us out of work. Mentally these past 3-4 months have been some of the worst of my life. My mental health has suffered greatly trying to land a job.
My search has not been going well. I am in the NYC area and I have been focused on Senior HRBP/leadership roles. I was let go from my job in early May. While I have had interviews, it's been a tough market overall. I was also just part of a final round interview process but the decision was made to go with someone else who they felt would be a better "cultural fit".
