Totally depends. At a senior level at B4, you have more flexibility (though a lot more demands… it just doesn’t matter where or when so much). At junior levels, more demands and not a lot of flexibility.
In industry the demands are less, but most of them are more “butt in chair” driven. It’s rare to find a company with more vision than that.
I'm sure it depends on the place....but, my public accounting role is mostly remote, I can adjust my hours and come/go as needed as long as my stuff gets done and I'm taking care of my team. I pick my kids up from school almost every day and frequently squeeze in lunchtime walks with my husband (he's mostly remote too). I audit mostly not-for-profit organizations and they all pretty much work in-person full-time. So, it's not that they can't take a couple hours for a doc appt, but it's still a far cry from the flexibility that I have.
I am in industry and have as much if not more flexibility as I did in public with a fraction of the work hours. It is possible to find but you really need to know the company. In my case I knew several people in the team I was joining and knew the flexibility was not just a meaningless promise.
Nope, hybrid- average expectation of 3 days in office with choice of those days.
There’s just much more of a range in industry. In my current role I’m 100% remote, I work way fewer hours than I did at B4, and I still have the same amount of flexibility. It’s possible to find
I would agree with the high level of variability in workplace culture. You can find somewhere that is flexible, but I would not go into a job search assuming that was the default.

Industry is WAY more flexible. If you have appointments you just go and they don't make you feel guilty or ask you to work late
Im at B4 now (boomeranged) and also thought my time in industry was significantly better balanced and more flexible.. however - there were more opportunities for growth and what I wanted … I’m sure it’ll get old some point and will deal with that when it comes …
Are you audit or tax?
neither. I’m in advisory
Go into nonprofit, roles like controller or vp of finance . Many nonprofit organizations are flexible
