For those that work in industry what AI tools are you using to help automate your data flow and compliance work? We are using the usual tax engine like OneSource and Vertex. Also using Alteryx to help with the data processing. The executive would like us to automate more and use more AI tools. I don't think there are "AI tools" out there that are there yet to actually be helpful but I can be wrong so just wondering what are you all using to make your compliance and tax accounting work easier.

There’s only so much you can automate without a review function. I think leadership and every other company is evaluating to what extent can we use AI, who and what processes can or cannot be replaced by it, and what’s left.

We’ll basically end up with review, monitoring, sign off and client delivery processes to humans. I like to use the Jetsons as an example. Basically they go to a 3 day work week and George Jetson’s job is to watch a monitor all day. That’s what we will become. The check.

With that being said, we’re still a few years of getting rid of the prep function and still need people in tandem with AI.

Copilot has been helpful. But because of the customer data, even that’s limited. So we basically use AI for task, research, formulas/scripts… nothing impactful.

I'm entering my final year of law school but am going part time since I work full time as a paralegal. I have been a paralegal for more 10+ years and I want to open my own firm after I pass the bar.

I've worked at a lot of different size firms including a startup with a few attorneys and I was able to help with a lot of the ground work with getting the practice management system in place and still do some of that now at my current firm. Has anyone done this right out of law school? Any advice?

Thanks in advance

What’s a good LA or NY business litigation firm and salary to expect? I’m a 2yr with quite frankly a lot of experience across civ rights, PI, excessive force, wrongful death, employment defense, K dispute, corp. structure dispute, professional licensure. Write every kind of brief, appeals, argue motions, take depos. Am the only associate working directly under partner on all cases. In house or M&A/Real Estate Transactional are likely the end goal but want to get the litigation out of me first.

If you follow the cryptocurrency market, or even have been just taking an interest lately, with the Bitcoin "halvening," you should check out Pi.

If you haven't heard of Pi, it's a new cryptocurrency (like Bitcoin), developed by a bunch of Stanford PhDs. What makes it really interesting is that you can still mine this coin, using just the processing power of your phone, unlike just about every other coin out there. (Contd)

Question: I have a client who started a restaurant. He leased the land and bought shipping containers where he spent money contracting out to turn them into bars. I’m having a tough time determining how to depreciate this! First thought was leasehold but he’s not making improvements to a structure...he owns the structure! But nonresidential real estate at 27.5 years doesn’t make sense either as it’s not a brick and mortar building. Curious on others thoughts! TIA
