For those who opened up several very expensive credit cards while on active duty to have them paid under SCRA, what cards did you keep, did you simply downgrade others instead of closing them, and how long did it take the banks to realize that you’re no longer on active duty to start charging you annual fees? I leave AD at the end of Nov, I have the amex platinum (of course), chase sapphire reserve, and amex bonvoy brilliant.

I switched my Amex platinum to gold once they sent me a notice about not being on active duty. It was probably about a year and a half after i left. It was right after Covid hit and the travel perks of the platinum didn’t make sense, especially since they charge for an extra platinum card for your spouse once you leave active duty but not for the gold card.

Yeah, might as well!

My company is fully remote in the US and is in general supportive of me going but concerned about local and international tax liability. Remote year doesn’t share tax advice and our HR team is small. Trying to get the formal approval from my company before officially signing up, advice welcome!
