As someone who was already full time remote, I like having the camera on since I miss not seeing my coworkers in person. Only human interaction I’m getting now a days 😪

funnylike

i have been full time remote as well and i have never met 3 or 4 managers and they have never seen me either ... and they all left the firm too. never affected my career or performance ..

I wouldn't say i've ever been "forced" but I do feel obligated to turn mine in if just about everybody else has theirs on. I do turn mine on anyway if even one other person has it on, and especially if it's a 1:1, because then it feels like you are meeting in person and I feel the working sessions are more productive.

I turn mine off too. They know we’re WFH and in sweats. I have no desire to show my face with my hair in a WFH bun on camera.

like

we are used to it since many of them wfh ..

like

Why do you feel so strongly about not turning it on ever?

like

cant help you there my friend :)

I prefer as it forces me to be engaged.

like

am on calls from 7:30 till 6:00 that also means i cant do anything other than just sit and stare at the monitor ...

No. I am self conscious and have low self esteem and confidence. I would be very anxious and nervous turning my camera on, with constant thoughts about how people are judging me.

We’re not forced to have it on but it’s nice to because it makes it more personable and sort of like you’re back in the office and seeing these people. Like you can actually see their reactions to something someone says.

Our clients were mandated by their leadership to have cameras on so it’s a little weird when we have client calls and all the clients are on camera and we aren’t..so generally we go on camera too.

like

I require cameras on for my meetings.

funny

you dont have to be on camera to be engaged is my point. its not like you are in board meeting...

like

Well, you're free to not turn it on, but deal with the consequences - you'll be forgotten very easily.

Not true. If thats the case it's not your appearance that's in question but your work.

I don’t particularly want to show off the fact that I haven’t had a haircut in three months.

funny

Most do, but no one says anything if you don’t. Me personally, I think there’s more of a connection if you can see everyone but if I’m having a slow day or just am not in the mood, I’ll turn the camera off and dont feel any anxiety about it.

What's interesting: same country, same city, just the bank across the street, I used to be forced to turn it on even pre-covid. Now, across the street no one cares. love it 😊

I only have mine on when someone else does. Our big team meetings are always on camera, most other meetings I have are not.

Mine is on. There is a piece of tape over the lens but it's on. Allows for day drinking during the 5 am scrum call.

I like to see my clients and they like to see me. What does it matter? Obviously no one can force you but I do find it weird when it’s always that one person who never turns theirs on

Any advice on how to tastefully tell your manager that you no longer want to be a charge nurse anymore? For us being in charge is having full assignment 3p-7p & being responsible for assigning pts , communicating w/ supervisor about various issues, making the assignment for next shift, and a mini report about each pt for the next charge. On the weekends, same responsibilities but 7a-7p. We don't get any additional pay for being in charge and I'm sick of the added responsibility and stress of it.
