If I moved to a different state last year, how do I allocate my investment dividends when filing for taxes?

I have a 401k and money in index funds, what would be the benefits of also having a Roth IRA?

I'm leaving my current job soon to go to a new company. My 401k is in company #1's "target retirement fund" through fidelity, but currently down at least 13% last time i checked (vested balance is a couple thousand $ less than I've invested).
Is it better to just let it sit rather than transferring it to whatever company #2's 401k is? Not sure how to handle it but company #1 said they won't touch it and it's up to me to transfer it if anything

I just left my pre-seed startup that was running out of cash (we made $100,000 in revenue this year, and sunk $1m in costs). I was making $40,000 as a developer (plus 20k stock options at $1/share per year) and they refused to pay me any more money. I have 17,000 vested stock options, total number of shares at the time of my contract was 4million. I’m a bit confused about share dilution and if it’s worth it for me to buy some of my stock options… thanks in adv!

1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date). I already have 1099 from similar company this year and am leaning towards 1099, but I don’t want to be difficult. I do take home office deduction and they are not supplying any equipment. I just hit my lean fire number but am hesitating to pull the trigger, so was hoping to run it by people smarter than me:

- I have a few rentals that bring in ~$1800/mo cash flow, taxes are negligible, Capex incl.

We have savings of $250k and our HHI is c$350k, with no debt. We will probably exhaust our savings on the deposit and closing costs. A $1m with mortgage at 6% with property taxes is c$8k/month. Is there any realistic way where tipping in the US goes away and we start to be like other countries (e.g. Europe/Asia)? Raise the price of the food, pay servers a fair wage, no tips? Just a dream 😅

I'm guessing no because businesses will fight hard against this (customers subsidize wages) and certain servers benefit from tipping as well.

Only other thing I can think of is if everyone collectively decides not to ever tip again and it forces business to change. Won't happen though.
