Apple Pay duh
Sign up for Cash App debit card it’s free and works with Apple Pay. Apply the $1 MTA Booster (discount) within the app. You pay $1.75 per ride instead of $2.75. Works out better than using Wageworks imo

To each their own but the MetroCard feels so outdated compared to every other world class city (and even a lot of small cities).

Card. If your phone dies or malfunctions you’ll be stranded otherwise
What the heck is an OMNY card, man I’ve been remote in NY for too long 😂

It’s the replacement card for the Metrocard. As the MTA is moving towards nfc payment (the whole subway and most of the buses are equipped now), they needed a new card to replace the swipey yellow one. Additionally they’re opening up there omny card to more transit operators, so you can use it on the PATH, Airtrains, Westchester and Nassau county buses and eventually LIRR and Metro-North. You can however use a Apple Pay or Google Wallet (or just a tap credit card) as well, so these cards are primarily aimed at the unbanked. However, at this time there is no way to put a timed (daily/weekly/monthly) pass on your phone, so you have to use one of these. The MTA has said timed cards will be coming to phones, but haven’t given a firm timeline as of yet.
