$156k would equal your day rate and usually they want to get a deal, you should assume they’ll wanna take 8-12k out for health insurance bringing you to ~146k. If you have performed exceptionally and think this includes a raise of some sort I’d aim as high as you can, per above suggested, i’d ask 180k, settle at 175k if they negotiate.
So i ended up giving a range of $115-120k. Laid out my thinking that i heard as high as $180k yearly and as low as $60k. My rate was $650/day on last few projects and that’s almost $170k/yr but you guys brought me in on a “trial rate” of $500/day ($130k/yr) with the promise of $650/day on future projects (the “only two rates” you pay freelancers). Since there are decent benefits (full health vision dental, 401k, discretionary bonuses, 2wks vacation, paternity, others) thought that number was fair. Response was that at that rate, they would need to present me to corporate HR as a Sr Producer and that they would do that. Then asked me to cater a sr producer resume for the package they would present. This was last week. They have brought me in to cover another project this week so i dont think i totally blew it. 🤞🙏
So i got a 60k and a 180k. They should go for that range.
Freelance day rates are always much much higher than salaried rates because the company doesn’t have to pay any overhead on you. The moment you become full time, the agency takes on something like double the cost of whatever your salary is.
I once freelanced at a place for $700/day and was offered an $85k salary. I’ve heard of others at a $500 day rate who were offered something like $65k.
I don’t know what math they use but maybe that reference helps.
In any case, don’t assume you’re getting offered 6 figures ... and if you do, let us know!
Will do. Thanks @ad1
Thanks for the input all
Realistically the most you can expect is probably $100K if they really want you and you negotiate hard
Large Direct Response company in LA. I’m the only producer on projects start to finish and expected to wear many hats though no role level like sr or mid level assigned. I have 3 years in advertising on large campaigns and some small but 12 on major features and docs. Any help cause ive been freelancing forever and dont know what to do. Thanks!!
Also very good full benefits
It’s been said when transitioning back to full time take your day rate x 5 x 48 and divide by two.
I wouldn’t divide by 2. Maybe multiply by .85% at the end
Ouch
Less than half of a yearly salary if you were to freelance the same time. Giving me a new perspective on some of these long term projects i’ve had.
😢😭
Haven’t received a response (been a week since i was told i should have a response), but was brought back on for january at the same day rate. 🤔
Got offered $95k for a Sr. Producer role. Not gonna lie, I could use the gig and a FT gig would go a long way at home right now. But how long can i be expected to stay if they know im taking much lower than what i need / feel is right. Fuck.
