My life style hasn't changed much, but I am happy that my income has enabled me to help others more easily. I currently support the college education of 13 orphans.
😂😂😂
I am a happy partner at 35. My income is solid.
I have no concerns about money, and as a result can be generous. I'm happy with the choices I've made and have a fulfilling life. However, I have exceptionally limited discretionary time.
I spend a good chunk of time working, spend evenings with my young kids (we have 4), and when they're asleep I am often getting more work done. I usually find time 5 or 6 times a week for a run, and am on the board of directors for my church. I have an amazing spouse who stays home with the family and makes sure our house stays intact.
After all this, I'm done. I don't get any time to play games (civilization is.. Was. A hobby). If something interesting comes up, I likely can't pursue it. And, I watch next to no tv or sports or pop culture.
All in all, I'm happy and wouldn't give up the list above. But, I would love the chance to breathe occasionally!
Wow, you're living the dream
Was a senior engineer for some years, and recently left to start my own professional engineering firm. I’m making $300k+ and with my wife’s salary, we are close to $500k/year. It is a much less stressful schedule, we both work from home, and with a couple kids on their way to college, it is nice to know all the bills are handled and we can take some awesome trips.
My advice to those of you that have high incomes, relative to those around you…keep it a secret. Our kids don’t even know how much we make, much less other family or friends. They just all assume we are going into credit card debt to afford our lives like they are haha. It’s fun that it’s our little secret and it’s even better listening to others brag about their lower salaries and gush over people who make half of what we do. Just a little tip.
Why would their life be any different,,. if you went to a top school and failed to fall in love with a spoiled brat that didn't get it or with your science of choice despite knowing you grew up too poor for academia to be an option that too would be you.
I make 100+K and am in the proper salary bracket for my tech sector and living area. I have the perfect balance and am happy. I think when one starts making over the bracket then the companies tend to dig their claws into you and then the life is not so happy. I base this on what I am reading in various forums, such as this one. One wants the sweet spot. More money means more job stress and life control issues, less money means more stress over finances. SO I advocate the Sweet Spot. Look at the salary brackets for your chosen field and area of the country to see where that sweet spot might be.
I’ve had offers to make $250-$300k and I’ve turned them down to keep my $210k job that is 100% remote with 9a-5p hours. I switched to my current role 3.5yrs ago and my physical and mental health have never been better. Best decision I’ve made for my career and overall life. I spend so much more time with family and friends.
My husband makes $155k so together we do fine in MCOL, especially with our 3% mortgage interest rate and all 4 kids in public school (no childcare costs) 😉
Meanwhile my spouses dad is a neurosurgeon that just broke the seven figure mark in salary last year, and when we were about to get evicted because we both were trying to find work and were a month and a half behind on rent, were told by the stepmomthat $3500 was too much money to give us.
Perspective, man. All of you all are doing nice things with people with high salaries and then you have the people like my in-laws who’d sooner Let their son become homeless and get evicted than help one time
