About to start my first PM job after consulting. Any tips to get myself prepared and ramp up quickly? Books to read, courses to take, etc.? Currently doing ops consulting, no tech background.

Inspired and Cracking the PM Career

Once your hiring manager responds, something I’ve found helpful myself is to go through online courses on whatever their tech stack is using. So for my upcoming role they use Python. So am taking myself through a python course on uDemy.

In general, if you use uDemy, Colt Steele is a great instructor/course creator for coding courses - I’d highly recommend.

Congrats! I would love to hear how you were able to switch from consulting to PM, any tips would be appreciated.

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

Any advice on where to go after PR (financial & healthcare)? I have one year of experience and have been pretty disappointed with my current agency. I have a been actively interviewing & was thinking to go into the sales route. I graduated in 2021 and really have no idea where I want to end up. I’ve been talking to people & networking trying to figure out next steps— could use some insight. The culture at my current agency isn’t the best & the pay is basically unlivable for NYC. Any thoughts?
