Most places I’ve worked in the past have a company attendance policy that if an employee calls in sick the day before or day after a holiday they forfeit holiday pay. That’s only for calling in sick. Preapproved PTO doesn’t fall under that policy. Have you asked your HR department?
I guess to meet the 40 hrs of the week? But was told that it’s policy that if you miss the day before or the day after a paid holiday, you do not get the pay for that holiday off, and unless you use your vacation hours, it’s considered “leave w/o pay”. Can someone confirm that this is a standard employee benefits policy, or clarify this situation? It doesn’t make much sense to me and im struggling to reason why or how that is an actual rule. I was denied permission to come in to work that Friday when my boss was fully aware that I would not be getting paid for the holiday, and also was aware that I did not know this. But still waited until payroll to inform me. I definitely don’t feel like I was given a fair chance to make the money I could have.
