What's a rule you are expected to enforce that you strongly disagree with or are indifferent to. Do you enforce it or take the risk? I move around as a tutor and am currently working with a school that has a ridiculously strict formal address policy. One of my second graders refers to me as "Miss Tutoring (my first name)" - it's about the cutest thing ever and doesn't bother me one bit. We are moderated sometimes and I'm more worried about her getting in trouble than me for not abiding.
Homework... it’s my worst nightmare in the classroom. I have to give it but have flexibility in creating my own policy. Please share what you give, how you collect, and/or grade!! THANKS!
Our school is modified remote. Students stay in one classroom all day. We wear masks full time. Another teacher has my kids during planning. She doesn't believe in masks. She wears a "mask", basically a lacy piece of fabric. She doesn't enforce masks either. I've brought it to my principal's attention in the past when she wouldn't wear a mask, but now she has a "mask", technically. My anxiety is high. I don't even want my kids to go to her, but I need a break. How do I handle this?
Warning! This post contains vocabulary that some might find offensive. Please scroll past if you feel it might disturb you. I was called upon to read aloud from this book "Allegedly", which has been given rave reviews, during a break between lessons in a 7th grade math class. I'm a former Marine and correctional officer so blushing isn't a thing for me. I read it aloud. I welcome all opinions and am especially interested in views in support of this novel, which would not have been my choice.
Hello Everyone, I’m was trying to help some of our secondary RSP teachers determine what they can do with their student’s during LAB/ Study Skills Class. Some of my ideas included: Work on incomplete classwork or homework, work on goals, study for test and quizzes, work on projects, goal setting for the next semester, organize google classroom assignments or practice for the state exams. If they are other ideas I would love to hear them! Thanks everyone
Am I the only one who doesn't understand why teachers refer to the students as "friends"?
To all the new teachers out there- the most important thing you can learn is classroom management. I’m working with someone who doesn’t quite get it. Often lessons devolve into chaos. It seems to be as long as the kids are enjoying it - then it’s ok. You also need to learn is to help out - to help set up, help pick up, help in whatever ways are needed. Don’t wait to be asked. Put down the freaking phone and pay attention! Finally, try to learn from your coworkers. You don’t know it all!
Do you think administrators should have a set minimum of years of classroom teaching experience?
So, apparently my school has the lowest teacher attendance this year. As teachers- what would be a good incentive to get perfect attendance and not use your PTO?
Another mass shooting in a HS. Semi-automatic handgun was used. Thoughts? https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna7128
Chem classroom social media. Do you use it? I have recently started and had a lot of success this year in terms of student and parent engagement. Please feel free to follow @johnstonchemistry on IG
I’m thinking about moving up to a high school English position from 8th grade English. Mainly I’m looking for a change. Any thoughts on the differences I’d be facing? I have high school children of my own, but disciplining high schoolers has always intimidated me for some reason. I have excellent classroom management, but I feel like high schoolers are a little smarter ab getting around rules and less worried about consequences. I’m told by an hs tchr that the grading load is ab the same.
This is my 7th year of teaching. I’ve been experiencing job burnout since my 3rd year. I know I need to do something else. I don’t think classroom teaching is ‘it’ for me. Did anyone else go through this? What did you end up doing?
I am not looking for a fight, but I was talking about this and thought it would be a good place to poll the masses. Opinions on CRT?

To the people who don’t want to forgive student loans, but do believe in funding welfare programs (specifically the ones that only low income people have access to.. not funding for schools/ libraries), why is it that you don’t believe in helping people who exhausted every opportunity to get an education and attempt to be a productive member of society, but you do believe in helping the other people? I’m genuinely curious so please don’t be disrespectful in the comments.
Have you ever cried at work?
Who is happy with their WLB to pay ratio? What’s your firm, YOE, and position, and total comp?
Post-Covid, I just cannot seem to find the inspiration to network at a conference such as the AWS DC summit. I initially wanted to get facetime with vendors to check out potential job openings. But it just feels like a large circle jerk where no productive work gets done. And besides all keynote addresses are recorded and available online anyway. Wondering if anyone out there feels differently or has had better experiences from these events? #aws
My dear american fishes. Scheduling a meeting on a friday morning-mid day for you means afternoon-evening for euros. Dont do this. Friday afternoon are sacred to ramp down, have some lunch with our peers and disconnect.
People who make 250K+ - do you still feel like you need / want more? Do you have a number in mind that you think is enough? Do you think you will need more when you reach it?
Last year, My girlfriend was making 80k while I was making 200k so I took her out to dinners and took care of the groceries etc. Basically made sure it’s an equitable relationship. She got a new job this year and is now making 210k (more than me) but still expects me to pay for all the dinners and groceries. I’ve already talked to her about this but just resulted in argument. Is there any coming back from this situation to make this equitable relationship or is break up the only option here?
Does anyone work at KPMG in the transformation delivery department and feel comfortable sharing pros and cons about the team?
Burned out and with 2 kids under 2, spouse works and life has been crazy this last 1.5 months (65hr/wk) Looking at leaving to re-calibrate and get back in a month or two. Spend time with family contd.
Soo how long we supposed to keep doing this sh*t for
What would you consider a life-changing amount of money? For me, I would say $50K. I am 24 years old and my only debt is my auto loan.
I heard Deloitte analysts (strategy analysts) are not eligible for performance bonuses. Is this true? It’s not clear on my offer.
Lol my manager just sent a team meeting invite for a 730am meeting. It's 10pm. Tempted to skip it and feign ignorance.
That moment your watching all the non status folks board and see some girl with what looks to be a sword on her back.
