Got my first juror summons that I couldn’t claim an exemption for yesterday 😭. Anybody here actually made it onto a jury as an attorney?

I haven’t but I know a sitting federal district judge who has served on two civil trial juries. Makes one wonder what the rest of the panel looked like and how dangerous the folks who were stuck actually were. Also know a number of lawyers who ended up on juries.

They love to get 1 lawyer (preferably transactional) on to help explain the jury instructions. I was a foreman once on a minor criminal trial- it was actually really interesting.

My selection process was three days with no computers or phones and the trial would have been a week if I was selected

I’ve met a few.

Pm me! I just literally got out of jury duty this week, which was horrible work-wise. I have a trick that will work.

It is a shame that my firm did not support my jury service (they treated it like I was still in the office). It is an important civic duty. But I am not a martyr and am not going to do a full jury trial and then stay up all night doing a full day of work after each day.

Yes I did. Surprised to get picked but apparently attorneys do actually get selected. It was a medical malpractice trial lasting a couple of weeks. Days end pretty early thankfully, but it was quite a slog.

I’ve seen prosecutors and public defenders serve in criminal trials. And sitting judges in trials. (This was in DC, where everyone is a lawyer.)

Struck me after voir dire.

Twice- one of which returned a verdict in criminal court today 🙄

I was on the jury for a criminal trial. It was awesome.

Yup, I was a juror for a criminal trial even though a lot of my practice involved representing police officers in section 1983 claims at the time.

I wasn’t selected.

Say, "I believe that the state wouldn't waste tax payer money putting an innocent person on trial". Done

I’m supposed to report in February, as I’m on my fourth exemption lol

I was struck in vor dire because we were asked if we knew anyone on the prosecutor’s office. My best friend had interned there the previous summer. The prosecutor texted her, and she told him I was defendant-friendly 😎

I did and I had so much fun!!!

Good. Did you leave the experience with more or less faith in the reliability of jury system than you had before?

Nope. Always dismissed.

I got to serve on a jury as an attorney in CA!! Trial only took one day. So much fun!

Nice. What did you learn?

Are ppl worried about being on the bench esp when there aren’t a lot of projects in the pipeline? New hire here about to be up for staffing for the first time and sentiment at my firm seems to be worried/fearful about being unstaffed. Is it actually worrisome to be on the bench in this environment or is this just a product of highly ambitious over achievers worrying about not being constantly utilized?

I accepted a job offer in April to start a few months from now, post clerkship. When should I reach out to the recruitment attorney leading up to my start date? Or should I? (Haven't spoken since May) Should I bring up the salary or just assume its higher?
