Hey
Is WFH permanent at SDC?
Hi All,
Looking to make the move from working in industry to big4 and was curious as to what level and pay I might be worth?
I have 10 years experience out of uni, as well as completed CPA and MBA. I have a experience in managing entire finance function of small/medium entities, but most notably solid corporate finance experience/strategy leading refinance exercises, debt raising, hedging/treasury strategy etc…Would be looking for something in deal advisory / M&A / CFO advisory etc….thanks Deloitte EY PwC @

Exceedingly common. I didn’t get dropped back a year when I lateraled as a 4th year, and I wish I had. That’s an extra year of junior level skill building and a longer runway in this up-or-out model.
If I lateral again, I hope they kick me back two years so I can redo my COVID years.
Very common. Try to negotiate if you want. Perhaps look for an opportunity to bump up at a future evaluation. But this is very common practice.
This is a blessing. 🙏🏻🇺🇸✝️ It gives you extra time to develop the internal firm relationships needed to make partner, so you’re not at a disadvantage relative to Day-1 associates who started their careers at the firm. Also, if it’s an up or out firm, it gives you an extra year to prove yourself and/or at least take home the BigLaw bucks. 🥂
If you are comfortable remaining in your class year, I think it is okay to ask them that you wish to remain in your current class year. I agree that an extra year to be a junior is great, but you might also end up taking on more responsibilities than the people who were “below” your class year when you could have been paid more.
This almost happened to me too when I was lateraling at the end of my second year in the same practice area from one biglaw to another (but larger) biglaw. I asked the new firm (through a recruiter) that I would prefer to remain at my class year level and that I understand I will have to work harder to adjust to the new firm, and they were fine with it. I figured the difference in terms of expectations for a second year vs a third year was not going to be significant while the difference in salary and bonus can be pretty large at least before taxes. So far I am glad I did not take a year cut.
Thank you!
Very common
Happened to me. After doing a good job for two years they gave me the year of credit and the pay that goes with it. I tried and failed to negotiate for it on the front end.
