I was in your position, though I graduated in 2020 so it was even scarier because the market was at a standstill. I tapped into the connections I had built while in law school through networking and got my dream job as a result. I interviewed for the job in October and started December 1. It was incredibly stressful, but I promise you it will all work out the way it’s meant to. Just keep putting yourself out there.
Focus on your bar exam now and keep networking and applying after. I landed my job in October. You WILL be fine 👌
What do you want to do?
Don’t sleep on internships in areas you’re interested in. It will help you meet people and gain more experience. You will have to hustle! Hang in there and don’t be discouraged!
Try to line up a post bar clerkship. This will give you more time to find employment if nothing comes in.
You’re from a great school, pass the bar and you’ll be in much better shape. You’ll be more marketable after the bar, at least after you get licensed.
Graduated in 2020. Didn’t have a job until after Labor Day.
Decided to not take my 2L summer position and nearly got to this point. Applied to over 600 jobs. Just keep plugging away. Try reaching out to friends from law school and see if they will write a letter of rec for their firm. I know the rejections get rough, but you just need 1 offer. I am now a senior associate and doing well. You will get past this. Good luck.
I am in the exact position. Graduated in may had a lot of interviews but no offer so I am working in a chinese restaurant rn instead. Literally wanna kms rn tbh.
Keep your head up! You will find something
I didn’t have a job lined up when I graduated in 2019. I focused on studying for the Bar first. After I took the exam, I reached out to everyone I had met, professors, mentors, former internship contacts & even folks I’d known before law school just to let them know I had graduated, taken the Bar & was looking for opportunities.
I attended a networking event at a big firm & that’s how I landed my first job. So don’t worry, it will happen. Stay proactive, keep putting yourself out there & trust the process!
I was in this spot. Did a clerkship and then got a job through networking (and network with literally anyone…I made the initial connection through a non-lawyer). Things will work out your just need to be persistent. Things also get a bit better once you pass the bar and have a license
Consider all areas of the law. Don’t limit yourself to one or two areas right now. You may find you like an area you did not previously consider. And, it will be easier to lateral into another area if you are employed. Of course it would be great to find the area that you think you want to start in, but consider working for a firm that has multiple practice areas and applying to those firms.
Keep applying. I was in your position and didn’t get a job until September. There are firms that are still filling out their 1st yr classes
Are you taking the Texas bar? With a Texas law license and a UT law degree you should be fine. Good luck!
Same boat after last in house contract job ended last December. I graduated in May 2023 and have since decided to try to get funding for my own business idea. Market is trash otherwise I’d continue interviewing.
