Had a tough interaction with a patient today that made me rethink how I communicate. They seemed frustrated, and I wasn’t sure if I wasn’t clear enough or if they were just having a bad day. I’ve been reflecting on my approach—was I too rushed, or did I not explain things in a way that resonated? I’ve been considering asking for feedback more often. Does anyone use patient surveys or peer reviews to get feedback on communication skills? How do you improve patient interactions and know you’re really connecting with them?

I'm a PA in the PNW working for a private group staffing ED's in several hospitals. Recently the group has asked the PA's to take on a couple new roles (triaging and rapid track from triage i.e. straightforward ESI 4, 5). With these changes the PA's are considering asking for increased pay in the form of an addition of a COLA (cost of living adjustment) to our normal salary. Was wondering if any other PA's in the ED have these in their contracts and at what rate.
