Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

What is the average salary for an Account Manager position? For context, the agency is 100% remote and doesn’t base salary based on the employee’s location. Was originally told $80k but was then informed the recruiter made a mistake and that it will likely be mid-70s at the highest.

When cold contacting an agency (because the agency doesn’t post jobs online), is it better to contact the head of account mgmt, or the agency’s recruiter?

Throughout my career, I have worked at both “traditional” and “digital” shops. My current agency would fall under traditional but also offers digital services. Our process, roles and skillsets seem way outdated but I wasn’t sure if it was just my opinion or if this is just how it works. For example, we have no CTO or tech leads. Our digital producers feel more like project managers than actual producers. Account Management is just traditional, no real digital knowledge. Feels layered and dated.

What are the key skills that one needs to master to become a Acct Sup? Is it always do it first before being promoted? Or is most of it learning once you’re in the role?

I am really biased toward people with clinical/in hospital experience because, quite frankly, healthcare is a different beast - lots of hand holding and change management. What does it mean if you get feedback such as “know the room better?” I came across a team email that was addressed to my account team, and I approached my boss about my response to it. Then he gave me this feedback and told me not to engage in the conversation. Funny thing is a strategy lead just responded back to the team with the exact response I came up with, and my boss agreed with her...

When is it appropriate to ask / explore working on a different account? Or, alternatively, how long do you stay on a account before you start itching for a change? I’m happy with my agency but it’s been a long two years on my current client and wondering if I am just in need of something new. I’d also like to ensure I don’t get too deep on any one industry.
