PwC 🐠, I interviewed with the firm about 6 months ago for a Senior Associate position on the forensics team. I wasn’t extended an offer because the position was given to an internal transfer, at least what I was told. I tried reaching out to the recruiter I worked with last time but the email bounced back and wouldn’t be delivered. I was hoping to see / reapply if the group still was looking for seniors.
In your opinion, would it be best to reapply as a cold application?

A couple of things may be worth keeping in mind:
1. Merit increases are often percentage-based, not equal dollar amounts. Someone with a higher base salary could receive the same or even a smaller percentage and still end up with a larger dollar increase. It’s also possible you’re closer to the top of your pay band, which can limit merit movement. I’d recommend asking your current leader to walk you through how merit increases and pay bands work for your role.
2. Annual reviews typically go beyond metrics alone. Productivity is important, but so are soft skills, competency level, overall impact, collaboration, and being a team player. Those factors often weigh heavily in ratings and merit decisions, even if they’re not always as visible as hard numbers.
If you genuinely believe the decision was driven by retaliation or bias, that’s something HR can help assess through a formal review or investigation. Otherwise, the most productive path forward may be to align closely with your new manager, get clear expectations, and have ongoing conversations throughout the year about how to maximize your impact and position yourself for stronger ratings or future promotion opportunities.
Now that they are gone, who would you ask about an appeal? Potentially start there and see what's possible. Good news is that you won’t have to deal with them anymore, so hopefully your merit increases will be more fair and aligned with what you’ve been contributing.
Yes, I’m waiting to see the outcome. It’s currently under a second review. It sucks to have to deal with people who doesn’t have integrity.
Is your comp already higher than their comp? If so, that might be why it’s less.
A role/job is only worth so much to a company and there’s a range for that role if multiple people have the same role. The highest paid person for a role might actually receive no comp increase because they’ve hit the max pay a company is willing to give.
That doesn’t sound like the situation for you and could be something worth discussing with HR for more details.
